Bedford entrepreneur wins prestige award

Selina Johnson has been named the winner of Virtual Assistant (VA) of the Year 2019 for East Midlands England Region, honouring her outstanding work as Founder and CEO of her business support company Selina & Co. made her clear favourite with the panel of judges.

The 36-year old mother of two from Bedford will now go through to the national final for England VA of the Year 2019 at Europe’s largest business event The Business Show at Olympia, London on 28th November 2019.

The awards are sponsored by BeMyVA directory, an organisation which connects business start-ups, smaller businesses and business leaders with virtual assistants from around the world. The rise of the virtual assistant industry has seen steady growth with overwhelmed businesses resorting to hiring virtual assistants as a solution to the limited time they have available.

Selina has 15 years of experience in providing elite support to established entrepreneurs and small businesses. Whilst working in London for 12 years as an Executive Personal Assistant she has supported high profile individuals; Dame Zaha Hadid DBE, award-winning architect, Dame Julia Peyton-Jones DBE, former Co-Director of the Serpentine Gallery and Timur Sardarov, a Russian billionaire, son of oil tycoon Rashid Sardarov.

She struggled with a work-life balance due to the long work-hours and 3-hour daily train commute to London and was on the brink of burnout with the physical and mental exhaustion of being away from home for 13 hours a day with little sleep, whilst caring for two children under the age of 3.

In 2016 she decided to leave her stable job and launched her Virtual Personal Assistant business. Selina is a new breed of virtual elite assistants who support high net worth individuals to run their lives and their businesses more efficiently. Her team of assistants offer remote support to established businesses with a turnover of 6-7 figures with administrative, technical and creative support to free their time.

Since launching her business, she has halved her working hours and doubled her income, with no commute.
