On Friday, Heidi Allen, Conservative MP for South Cambridgeshire, officially opened Granta Park Montessori Nursery. The facility has been specially rebuilt to accommodate a maximum of 90 children using the latest eco-friendly building technology.
Speaking at the event, Orestis Tzortzoglou, Development Director at Biomed Realty, said: “We are excited to be opening this wonderful new facility here at Granta Park expanding the services we can offer Granta Park employees and the local community. We are pleased to be working with Sunhill Daycare and are confident the Montessori Nursery will offer fun early learning programmes that will give children the best possible start.”
Montessori focuses on the immense capacity of children to absorb information by giving them the freedom and independence to learn at their own pace. This is based on the deep understanding of the way children learn, by choosing, trying and doing things for themselves. Activities are designed to teach children independence from an early age, including self-serving their own meals, and washing up and tidying up afterwards. Each room has its own secure outdoor area, offering children exciting and challenging experiences both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area is designed to develop children’s early science skills and to help promote creative and critical thinking.
Operated by Sunhill Daycare, the nursery’s opening hours are 7:30am – 6:30pm, Monday to Friday. Sunhill offers both 15 and 30 hours government funding for eligible children, and also accepts childcare vouchers and payment via tax-free childcare. Discounted rates also available for Granta Park employees.
