‘Tremendous Tractor Taste Tour’ serves up the best of local produce for Norfolk

Leaving behind its usual home on the fields, a huge tractor took to the streets of Norwich yesterday, catching the eye of local residents. The East of England Co-op’s Tremendous Tractor Taste Tour arrived in the city on Tuesday afternoon to give away some of the region’s best loved local produce in celebration of the Producer of the Year awards 2018.

A team from the East of England Co-op took an iconic green and yellow tractor on a mammoth journey across East Anglia yesterday, starting Essex to hand out breakfast, visiting Suffolk to serve lunch and finishing in Norfolk to share dinner.

On its final stop of the day, the tractor pulled up outside The Forum in Norwich to hand out dinner and dessert, accompanied by Norfolk shortlisted producers Tim Briscoe from Buxton Potatoes and Matt Legon from Gnaw Chocolate. Passers-by were given potatoes and chocolate and encouraged to vote for their favourite local producer in the awards.

Roger Grosvenor, Joint Chief Executive at the East of England Co-op, commented: “Our Tremendous Tractor Taste Tour was a roaring success, with all of our producers getting hands on and involved with chatting to the public and encouraging them to vote for their businesses.

“In Norfolk for dinner, many hungry shoppers stopped on their way past the Forum to chat to Tim and Matt and get hold of some Buxton Potatoes and Gnaw Chocolate.”

Now in its sixth year, the Producer of the Year awards is an annual event, celebrating the best local farmers, growers and producers who supply the East of England Co-op as part of their Sourced Locally initiative. This year’s shortlisted producers are Ken Green Fish Merchants and Wicks Manor Pork from Essex, Havensfield Eggs and Purely Pesto from Suffolk and Buxton Potatoes and Gnaw Chocolate from Norfolk.

Voting closed on Wednesday 31st January 2018, and the county champion from each region announced soon. Each finalist will be judged by a panel of food and farming experts in February, before the overall winner is crowned at the East of England Co-op’s prestigious Supplier Supper in March.
